Preventing Windows Media Player 10 from automatically deleting content on a portable player

Summary:

  • If your portable player, such as the ZEN Micro or the ZEN PMC, has established an automatic synchronization relationship with your PC via Windows Media Player 10, the software will automatically sync and delete those files that are on your device, but not on your PC , once the player is connected to your PC.

To prevent Windows Media Player 10 from automatically deleting content on your portable player, you need to set the Windows User Mode Driver Framework service (Wdfmgr.exe) Startup type setting either to Disabled or to Manual.

  1. Click Start, click Run, type services.msc in the Open box, and then click OK.
  2. In the list of services, right-click Windows User Mode Driver Framework (Wdfmgr.exe), and then click Properties.
  3. Click the General tab.
  4. In the Startup type box, click Disabled or Manual, and then click OK.
  5. On the File menu, click Exit.
  6. Restart your PC.

Open Window Media Player 10 and connect the player to the system. The Sync option should be set to manual now.
